Minister Ramesh Pathirana says a definitive announcement on lifting the current quarantine curfew on the 1st of October, will be made after the next meeting of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
Speaking during the weekly Cabinet media briefing at the Department of Government Information today, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Ramesh Pathirana said there is a clear reduction in the number of daily infections and COVID related deaths.
When questioned over a statement made by former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe of a possible delay in reopening the country owing to a fuel shortage, Minister Pathirana said curfew will be lifted based on scientific data.
He said specialists were of the view that the country could be opened two weeks after all persons above 30 years have been fully vaccinated.
Minister Ramesh Pathirana said accordingly they are hopeful of reopening the country on the 1st of October.
He said they are determined to resume businesses in the month of October and take the country forward.
