Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella says the World Health Organisation has commended Sri Lanka’s method of home-based treatment for individuals who test positive for COVID-19.
Speaking in Kandy, the Minister said the government is ready to face any future situation.
Minister Rambukwella said necessary facilities have also been prepared in the event such a situation arises.
The Minister said the home-based programme has been a great success with more than 100,000 individuals monitored under the homecare system.
Minister Rambukwella stated that only one individual succumbed to the virus while being treated at home with less than 2,000 having to be hospitalised.
The Health Minister said the government did not let people die on roads like neighbours India.
He claimed that the hospital system would have collapsed had the 100,000 individuals who were treated at home been hospitalised.
