Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga says the vaccination card will be made mandatory to visit public places, from the 1st of January.
Minister Ranatunga said the decision has been taken by the COVID Prevention Committee.
Speaking during the Gampaha District COVID committee meeting, the Minister said the regulation will come into force from the 1st of January.
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said it is the responsibility of the citizens to obtain the vaccine against COVID-19 whenever it is offered.
Minister Ranatunga said officials are planning to use the QR code system to identify the vaccination status of an individual.
1,554,292 persons have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Gampaha while Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has issued instructions to complete the inoculation of booster jabs in the district before the 31st of December.
15,964,289 individuals have obtained at least one dose of a vaccine against COVID-19 in Sri Lanka while 13,803,820 persons have been fully vaccinated.
