The Association of Health Professionals says arbitrary decisions of the Ministry of Health led to all COVID-19 waves in the country.
The Association said the drop in the number of daily PCR tests is also a contributing factor to the reduction in the number of COVID-infections reported lately.
President of the Association Ravi Kumudesh speaking at a media briefing yesterday said the Ministry of Health has unnecessarily reduced the number of PCR tests, stating it is one of the main reasons behind the drop in cases.
Kumudesh urged the Ministry to not move backwards highlighting that when the coronavirus was controlled, arbitrary decisions of the government and the Health Ministry led to another coronavirus outbreak in the country towards the latter stages.
He noted that the public in the month of August forced a lockdown and pointed out that failure to take suitable decisions will lead to the country facing another wave of COVID-19.
Ravi Kumudesh commenting on the administration of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority said the Authority does not act in an independent manner.
He added the NMRA must be an independent institution before looking into any malpractice.
Kumudesh noted that the import, distribution and manufacture of medicines must be carried out in an independent manner.
He noted that a drug mafia is underway, claiming that medicines are imported, registered, distributed and manufactured via the State Pharmaceutical Corporation, the State Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Corporation and the State Ministry of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals.
He charged that this group, including the new Director General of the NMRA and the CEO that is due to be appointed to the Authority are all part of this process.
