Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga says the tourism industry of Sri Lanka will be uplifted by following tactics used by developed countries to promote their own tourist attractions.
Speaking to media today, the Minister said the tourism sector could not be developed by simply remaining in lockdown.
He noted that the three million people depending on the tourism industry for their livelihoods cannot survive any longer based on concessions granted by the government.
Minister Ranatunga said many countries that faced a worse situation than Sri Lanka due to the coronavirus are now reopening borders to tourists and are flourishing.
Therefore he called on individuals to follow these tactics and attract more tourists in order to strengthen the country’s economy.
