Sri Lanka’s COVID cases rise to 351,533

TOP STORY: The Cabinet Subcommittee appointed to resolve teacher-principal salary anomalies and other issues have called on trade unions of the education sector. Speaking to NewsRadio General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Stalin said the meeting will be held at 6 pm next Tuesday, at Minister Wimal Weerawansa’s official residence. He said teacher-principal trade unions hope to resolve all pertinent issues at the meeting. In reply to a government decision to meet trade unions separately, he said the trade unions communicated that they will meet as a collective unit. LOCAL: Services of the National Transport Medical Institute have been limited, considering the present coronavirus situation in the country. Issuing a statement the Institute said, services will be provided to individuals who make prior appointments by contacting the 225 hotline, or via e-channelling at its head office in Nugegoda and branches including Werahera. The National Transport Medical Institute will provide services without limitations, to driver medical evaluations requested by Court. INT: Twitter has restored the accounts of senior members from India's opposition party Congress, days after they shared pictures of the family of an alleged rape victim. The image showed the parents of a nine-year-old, who was allegedly raped and murdered in the capital, Delhi. Twitter said the accounts have now been restored after Gandhi submitted formal consent from those pictured. He previously accused Twitter of interfering in India's politics. Gandhi, who has more than 19 million followers, posted the image last week, telling his followers that the family deserved justice. Relatives of the child, a Dalit girl, say that the girl was attacked by a Hindu priest and three others after going to fetch drinking water from a crematorium's cooler. SPORTS: Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has challenged the club's critics to come up with the evidence if they believe the Blues are breaking Financial Fair Play rules. Thirteen months after the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned City's two-year ban from European competition for breaching Uefa's FFP rules, questions about the club's spending are again being raised. Guardiola defended City's British record £100m signing of England midfielder Jack Grealish. The Spanish manager insists the deal was only possible because of the £60m-worth of sales by the club over the past 12 months, including the £11m received from Borussia Dortmund following Jadon Sancho's move to Manchester United. And that’s all the news for this hour, join us again at 12pm for more of the very latest, I’m __ for NewsRadio…
