Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll crossed the 7,000-mark today as the country continues to report record number of fatalities and coronavirus cases on a daily basis.
Another 198 coronavirus related fatalities were confirmed in Sri Lanka today, the highest figure in a 24 hour period, raising the death toll to 7,183.
The Director General of Health Services in a statement said all 198 deaths were confirmed yesterday, the 20th of August.
117 males and 81 females were among the victims.
154 persons, 89 males and 65 females among the group that succumbed to the virus, were 60 years of age or above.
Meanwhile, 44 individuals, 28 males and 16 females, were between 30 and 59 years of age.
