Sri Lanka today became the 66th nation to confirm 600,000 coronavirus cases since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Another 840 COVID-19 cases were detected in Sri Lanka today, raising the number of confirmed infections to 600,203.
Among the new cases, 834 have been linked to the New Year COVID-19 cluster while six persons who arrived in the country from overseas recently also tested positive for the virus.
Accordingly, the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said 15,888 persons are currently receiving treatment for coronavirus at several facilities across the country.
Earlier today, 214 persons who recovered from COVID-19 were discharged from hospitals, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 569,043.
Sri Lanka’s coronavirus death toll is currently at 15,272.
