State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana says a large stock of COVID-19 vaccine doses is expected to arrive in the country over the next few weeks.
Speaking to media after an event this morning, State Minister Jayasumana said Sri Lanka received 400,000 Pfizer vaccine doses during the past two days.
He said the vaccination of school children can commence when recommendations are issued by the Advisory Committee on Communicable Diseases.
On a separate note, the State Minister claimed the opposition is the reason behind youth in the 20-29 age group being reluctant to get vaccinated.
The State Minister said members of the opposition are attempting to sabotage the vaccination drive by spreading misinformation through social media accounts of their associates.
State Minister Jayasumana requested the youth to get vaccinated at the earliest without being misled by misinformation, adding there is no proof of health risks thus far.
