Sri Lanka today confirmed more than 200 COVID-19 related deaths within a 24-hour period, for the first time.
Another 209 COVID-19 related fatalities were confirmed in Sri Lanka today, raising the coronavirus death toll to 8,157.
The Director General of Health Services in a statement said all 209 deaths were confirmed yesterday, the 25th of August.
108 males and 101 females were among the victims.
163 persons, 77 males and 86 females among the group that succumbed to the virus, were 60 years of age or above.
Meanwhile, 46 individuals, 31 males and 15 females, were between 30 and 59 years of age.
