Sri Lanka Railways says they have sought approval from the Ministry of Transport to resume railway operations from the 15th of October.
Train operations have been temporarily suspended owing to the coronavirus.
Railways General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara said plans were in place to operate 108 train journeys from the 1st of October.
However, he said it was delayed for two weeks following health guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health.
Jayasundara said in the event approval is granted to resume train operations, three semi-express office trains will also be added from Kurunegala, Panadura and Veyangoda.
He claimed that prior to the coronavirus outbreak the Sri Lanka Railways generated an income of Rs.500 million monthly adding the Department has also saved on expenditure with the suspension of railway operations.
