Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Shakthi is due to leave for the Chennai Port tomorrow to bring another consignment of medical-grade oxygen ordered from India.

The vessel which left the Trincomalee harbour for the Chennai Port on the 17th August, had arrived at the Colombo harbour at midnight with a shipment of 40 tonnes of medical-grade oxygen from India.

Meanwhile, the Indian Naval Ship Shakhti, a Fleet Tanker, arrived at the Colombo Port last evening, with a shipment of 100 tonnes of medical-grade oxygen, in response to a call of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne from the Chief of Naval Staff of India.

The Navy said it is prepared to make its contribution to go ahead with this service as needed, to ensure an expeditious supply of medical grade oxygen for COVID-19 treatment.
