The Ministry of Health has spent Rs.181 billion during the past one and a half years on mitigating the coronavirus pandemic in Sri Lanka.

Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella speaking at an event yesterday said the sum spent was in addition to the Budget allocations of 2021 for the health sector.

Minister Rambukwella said spending such a large sum of money on the country’s health system during a challenging period is a significant step taken by the government.

Meanwhile, Minister Rambukwella said the World Health Organization will present Sri Lanka an award for the country’s home-based COVID-19 treatment programme and will popularise the programme worldwide.

The Minister added Sri Lanka is ranked fourth in the booster vaccination drive in the world while steps have been taken to import more stocks of vaccine doses at a cost of Rs.14.5 million.
