The Association of Government Medical Laboratory Technologists says the general public is under duress due to actions of the government and the Ministry of Health.
Speaking to media, President of the Association Ravi Kumudesh said the public should be able to get tested for coronavirus at least at private laboratories.
Ravi Kumudesh said citizens are carrying out their duties without knowing whether they have contracted COVID-19 and some are fearful even when they sneeze.
He said without conducting a test, they cannot rule out a COVID infection.
Ravi Kumudesh noted that there are no provisions in the guidelines issued by the Health Ministry for people to get tested if they exhibit symptoms or have suspicion.
He said if the Heath Ministry is unable to provide the facility, it should at least allow private labs to conduct tests.
Ravi Kumudesh also urged the Health Ministry to fulfill its duties. He said through peoples’ taxes 71 district hospitals, 496 other hospitals, 1,496 primary healthcare centres and clinics and other facilities are maintained.
The President of the Association of Government Medical Laboratory Technologists said despite taxpayers funding such centres, they cannot get a Rapid Antigen test or get vaccinated at such facilities.
He said the public has been asked to visit different parks to get vaccinated and be on display.
Ravi Kumudesh said the world is dealing with a pandemic and it is not a time for celebrations and media spectacles.
He said therefore the Health Ministry should take the lead in tackling the crisis by fulfilling its duties.
