Senior Consultant Physician at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama says quarantine curfew could have been avoided if the public strictly adhered to guidelines published by health authorities in the month of July and in the beginning of August.

Dr. Wijewickrama requested the public to follow guidelines to curb the spread of the coronavirus, when quarantine curfew is lifted in the coming weeks.

He noted the public must continue to remain cautious as vaccinated individuals can also contract the virus, even though complications and deaths can be minimised.

Dr. Wijewickrama added the decision to keep the country closed will depend on whether the public follows safety practices.

Dr. Wijewickrama claimed the public tends to forget the pandemic when the number of patients decrease, and they once again gather in groups.
