President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has issued directives to advise Medical Officers of Health to inform authorities to procure the required number of vaccine doses, if there are areas with a large number of unvaccinated persons over the age of 30 years.
President Rajapaksa said measures are in place for individuals to obtain the first dose, if they were unable to take it previously for any reasons, from centres that administer the second dose at present.
The Head of State made these remarks during a meeting of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 earlier today.
Attention was also drawn towards taking steps to promptly hospitalize all coronavirus infected individuals who are over the age of 60 years or those undergoing treatment for non-communicable diseases.
The President said he has reports that even such individuals fully recover if they are hospitalized at the early stage of the infection.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa meanwhile has said that regional politicians must encourage people to obtain the vaccine against COVID-19.
