Post Offices island-wide will remain open only four days a week during the quarantine curfew period.
Accordingly, Post offices will remain open only on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, if curfew has been imposed.
Issuing a statement, Postmaster General Ranjith Ariyarathne said Post Offices will not function on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
A decision was taken previously by the government to open Post Offices throughout the week from Monday to Saturday, considering the essential nature of the work carried out by postal workers.
However, owing to the transportation issues faced by postal workers due to curfew, with the agreement of trade unions and officials, a decision has been taken to limit operations of Post Offices across the country.
It has been reported that nearly 500 postal workers had contracted COVID-19 recently which had led to the closure of 50 Post Offices.
Postmaster General Ranjith Ariyarathne said despite the new directive, they have made arrangements to disburse the senior citizens’ allowance as planned on the 17th and the 18th of this month.
