The Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors Union says they are ready to support and oversee a programme to inoculate school students, if approved by the government in future.
Chairman of the Union Upul Rohana said it must be made mandatory that all students above 12 years of age receive any vaccine, before schools reopen after lockdown.
Rohana reiterated completing the vaccination of students was a easily achievable task, if the government allocates necessary vaccine doses.
He added many countries have already begun the inoculation of students.
Upul Rohana recalled that PHI were responsible for administering the vaccine to students for other causes so far, and therefore added PHI would most suit the programme.
He stressed on the need for a suitable vaccine to be administered students.
