Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says he is disheartened with the actions of the country’s leaders, ignoring the current coronavirus state, at a time that Sri Lanka has dropped to the 15th spot in terms of the virus spread.
Issuing a statement, the Opposition Leader said the government continues to ignore advice of health authorities in order to further their own political interests.
He recalled that a World Health Organisation report requested authorities to impose a lockdown in a specific area or island wide in order to reduce infections and deaths.
However, MP Premadasa added the report claims deaths will increase to 30,000 in the event a lockdown is not imposed.
The Opposition Leader called for an immediate lockdown to be imposed for a brief period.
He noted individuals willing to engage in politics through the death of citizens, will be unable to take decisions on a stringent lockdown.
