Director of the Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology Unit at the University of Sri Jayawardenepura Dr. Chandima Jeewandara says the number of individuals confirmed to have contracted the Omicron variant in Sri Lanka has increased to four as of today.
Taking to Twitter Dr. Jeewandara said the positive cases were reported from the laboratory today.
Dr. Jeewandara said as expected the number of individuals who contract the Omicron variant is likely to increase.
He encouraged the public to ensure they receive the Pfizer booster shot.
Sri Lanka reported its first Omicron infected individual on the 3rd of December.
The individual was identified as a traveller from Nigeria who was not vaccinated against COVID-19.
