Director of the Health Promotion Bureau Dr. Ranjith Batuwanthudawa says according to data obtained from COVID-19 positive cases three weeks ago, it was revealed that between 12 to 25 percent had contracted the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Speaking at a media briefing this afternoon, Dr. Batuwanthudawa said the number of Omicron cases could have drastically increased since.
He said when comparing data of the Medical Research Institute, the number of Omicron cases could have increased since last reported and therefore requested the public to ensure they are vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Dr. Batuwanthudawa added that an individual who hasn’t received the first and second dose can contact the respective Medical Office of Health and inquire into centres administering the first and second dose.
He noted that it is important to ensure one is vaccinated in order to fight the Omicron virus.
