Minister of Youth & Sports Namal Rajapaksa has requested youth to visit vaccination centres at the necessary time and obtain the COVID-19 vaccine.
Speaking to media the Minister said it has been observed that the percentage of individuals between the ages of 20 and 29 getting vaccinated has reduced.
He noted health unit believes that getting vaccinated will ensure the safety of parents, elders and villagers, adding that it is not a political opinion.
The Minister said doctors have stated that getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is the easiest and most suitable way to prevent the spread, and the President accordingly issued directives to bring down sufficient vaccine doses.
He added health authorities must determine whether or not a third dose will be administered, based on global trends.
The Minister said several countries imposed lockdowns to control the spread of the virus adding however that it is now reported that it is ineffective, and citizens must learn to live with the virus.
He added the country must move forward with experience.
Minister Rajapaksa also highlighted the need for the youth to get involved in development initiatives.
He noted youth have already come forward to uplift the country and protect the people by getting vaccinated, and urged others to do the same.
