The Ministry of Health says permission has not been granted to activities that will require the participation of a large number of people.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Deputy Director General of Health Dr. Hemantha Herath said they cannot issue guidelines for protesters since permission has not been granted for large gatherings.
Dr. Hemantha Herath said however, all persons in public should follow the DReAM concept introduced to mitigate COVID-19.
He said all persons should continue to wear facemasks at all time, should adhere to social distancing rules and wash hands on a regular basis.
Dr. Herath said the support of the general public is essential to mitigate COVID-19.
Meanwhile, 56 expectant women have succumbed to COVID-19 in the country.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Director, Maternal and Child Health at the Ministry of Health Dr. Chithramalee De Silva said nearly 8,500 expectant women contracted COVID-19 in the country.
Dr. De Silva said however the spread among pregnant women had been at minimum level in recent weeks.
She also noted vaccination of expectant women had been conducted in a successful manner and only a limited number of individuals have refrained from obtaining the vaccine owing to various reasons.
