State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Channa Jayasumana says they will not impose lockdowns despite an increase coronavirus case numbers.
Speaking to media this morning the State Minister said disciplinary action will be taken against comments made by certain health sector employees, concerning the government vaccination drive.
The State Minister said the omicron variant which is four times more transmissible than the Delta variant is spreading rapidly within the country as of the past two weeks.
However, he commented that complications experienced by those who contract the omicron variant are much milder than the Delta variant.
Therefore, he requested people to not listen to pundits on social media and requested that they obey advice of the Health Ministry, qualified Doctors and Health Professionals.
Clearing misconceptions, the State Minister clarified that the booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine is being given to the public in order to enhance immunity against the virus and not as a completely new vaccine.
