The Ministry of Health says there is no evidence to support the claim that vaccines against COVID-19 will cause sexual dysfunction among youth.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath claimed a group of individuals are carrying out a planned effort to spread misinformation targeting the youth, by highlighting sensitive topics.
Dr. Herath said the claims are a sensitive matter as they cannot be refuted with physical proof.
He added claims of a rash or swelling however can be disproved, and therefore the relevant group is using sensitive topics to incite fear among the public.
The Deputy Director General of Health Services therefore urged the public to refrain from being deceived by such false claims and to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine.
He added health officials are taking steps to educate the public and steer them towards the correct path.
