State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Channa Jayasumana says other virus variants of the coronavirus could emerge in Sri Lanka in the days ahead.
Speaking to media, the State Minister said it was important for people to prepare for such a situation.
The State Minister said the coronavirus situation in Sri Lanka is critical, adding it will be crucial to curtail the situation during the next two weeks.
He therefore requested the public not to refrain from leaving homes unless it is essential. The State Minister warned that the Delta variant is deadly and people must be prepared for it.
He also claimed, other variants such as Lambda and Epsilon are emerging overseas, which vaccines are much less effective against.
