President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has informed the Cabinet of Minister to take necessary steps to address the controversy surrounding the dissemination of accurate data related to daily coronavirus deaths and cases.
Speaking to media, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said a number of factions had raised concerns about the accuracy of data released pertaining to COVID-19 deaths and infections.
Minister Alahapperuma noted that the government has no intention or has a requirement to conceal such information and claimed that necessary action will be taken against individuals who attempt to distort COVID data.
The Minister noted that it is unacceptable if someone had deliberately distorted data related to coronavirus at a time the public has been fighting for their lives.
Minister Dullas Alahapperuma added that instructions have been given to the Health Ministry to conduct a thorough investigation pertaining to the matter adding that the newly appointed Health Minister is also tasked with addressing the concern.
Minister Alahapperuma claimed that if there was any discrepancy related to the data released by the Health Ministry, it will be rectified promptly.
