The Government Nurses Officers Association has called for a programme to be launched from today to identify COVID-19 patients while at their homes.
Chairman of the Association Saman Ratnapriya said they requested a scientific lockdown and not a political lockdown; a lockdown that is well planned.
He said long queues were witnessed at shops creating clusters of people, who were rushing to purchase necessities on Friday.
Ratnapriya said it is now important to identify patients and segregate them, as hospitals are overwhelmed with the number of positive infections.
While acknowledging that quarantine curfew will reduce the spread of the coronavirus to a certain extent, Ratnapriya said it does not signify that there are no patients in society.
He claimed that if suitable action is not taken, the virus will begin spreading again quarantine curfew lifting on the 30th of August.
