Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella has issued instructions to monitor the medical oxygen requirements of patients undergoing treatment at hospitals for COVID-19 and to take necessary measures.
The Health Minister has said oxygen should be supplied to coronavirus infected individuals without any shortage and has called on health authorities to take necessary technical decisions without a delay.
Minister Rambukwella has previously said that no patient will have to pay with their life owing to a lack of medical grade oxygen.
The Minister said the daily requirement for medical grade oxygen has increased significantly adding that attention has been directed to obtaining necessary stocks.
Meanwhile, according to data, the daily demand for medical grade oxygen has exceeded 80 tonnes.
However, before the COVID-19, the country’s daily medical grade oxygen demand was between 20 to 25 tonnes.
Accordingly, the government took a decision to import medical grade oxygen from India on a weekly basis.
