State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama says if health authorities inform that only persons vaccinated against the coronavirus can use public transport services, the Ministry of Transport will have to comply.
Speaking to media in Kandy State Minister Amunugama said if the relevant circulars are issued, the Ministry of Transport will issue directives to check the vaccination card of passengers using Sri Lanka Transport Board and private buses, as well as trains.
He noted the Ministry of Health must reach decisions regarding the pandemic, adding the Transport Ministry will have to comply.
The State Minister added however the Transport Ministry has not been officially notified in this regard thus far.
State Minister Amunugama said however the Ministry will issue the necessary directives, once it is informed in writing.
When inquired on unannounced power cuts being imposed in the country, State Minister Amunugama said the government has not declared that scheduled power cuts will be imposed adding however power outages were reported from several areas.
He stated sudden power cuts are normal adding the Ministry of Power is looking into whether the recent power cuts were caused due to technical issues or acts of sabotage.
The State Minister added if it found to be an act of sabotage by a certain group, necessary legal action will be taken to arrest those who are responsible.
