The Government Medical Officers’ Association says a majority between the ages of 20 to 30, are reluctant to obtain vaccines against the coronavirus.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, GMOA Secretary Dr. Senal Fernando said only a minority of the 3.3 million youth between the ages of 20 and 30 have been vaccinated thus far.
He requested youth to get vaccinated as soon as possible in order to protect themselves and their loved ones.
Dr. Fernando said the probability of another lockdown can be avoided if all citizens continue to adhere to guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health.
He called on the public to learn lessons of past mistakes and adhere to regulations issued by the Ministry.
Dr. Senal Fernando added a new coronavirus wave emerged after a similar period of time to the previous lockdown.
He stressed the government vaccination drive has ensured a reduction in the number of cases, and therefore called on the public to help keep the economy afloat by avoiding another lockdown.
