The Gampaha United Trade Association has taken steps to temporarily close all shops and business institutions in the Gampaha city from today, till the 23rd of August.
NewsRadio correspondent said the decision was reached after 2,270 COVID-19 cases were reported from the Medical Officer of Health divisions in the Gampaha District by last morning.
The Association said a large group of individuals arrive in Gampaha daily despite the prevailing COVID-19 situation, adding that there is no reduction in the numbers despite travel restrictions.
Accordingly responsible Police officers including the Senior Superintendent of Police of the Gampaha division and responsible authorities including the Gampaha District Secretary and Mayor have been informed that shops and business institutions will be closed for a week till the 23rd.
They have also requested the public to refrain from arriving in Gampaha as all shops are closed.
Additionally all shops associated with the Veyangoda Trade Association will be closed till the 21st of this month.
