Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and State Minister Shehan Semasinghe yesterday expressed their views on several requests made to close the country for several weeks.
Minister Aluthgamage said such requests were focused on disrespecting the government that has successfully controlled the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Minister said certain groups are motivating people to protest, if a lockdown is not imposed, under the guise of COVID-19.
The Minister stated all citizens will be vaccinated by September or October, adding that certain factions do not want the government to solve this crisis.
He claimed that if a lockdown is imposed, it should be for a month at least, and questioned how the economy will be managed.
State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said the motive behind such requests is to inconvenience the government.
The State Minister said their objective is not containing the COVID-19 situation, but bringing disrepute to the government and attempting to create losses to the government.
State Minister Semasinghe added at a time that the President is due to make certain decisions, several factions are attempting to portray that the decisions were influenced by them.
