Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga has instructed officials to formulate a joint programme to streamline operations of the Katunayake Airport under the new normal due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The programme is focused on minimising the inconvenience caused to local and foreign passengers at the BIA.
Accordingly, the Minister instructed the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited, the Department of Immigration and Emigration, the Sri Lanka Customs, and the health and tourism divisions to implement a joint programme.
Minister Ranatunga issued these directives at a special discussion held today pertaining to future activities of the BIA under the new normal owing to the COVID-19 situation.
The Tourism Ministry said the number of daily arrivals has increased with the easing of travel restrictions.
The Ministry added accordingly, more than 12,000 passengers travel through the airport daily.
