The Public Health Inspectors Union has attributed discrepancies at vaccination centres in Chilaw, due to statements by senior health officials that the public can get vaccinated at any centre in the country.
Chairman of the Union Upul Rohana requested the public to obtain vaccines from centres established in their respective Grama Niladhari Divisions.
He was referring to a statement made by the Chairman of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, requesting eligible individuals to get vaccinated at any centre in the country.
Rohana said members of the COVID-19 Prevention Task Force are misinformed of the daily struggles of ground level staff.
He added vaccinations are administered based on the number of residents within a respective Grama Niladhari Division.
He said individuals arriving from various other parts of the country in order to obtain vaccines causes a shortage for area residents and other additional issues.
Rohana stressed people cannot travel outside of their areas to obtain vaccines.
Upul Rohana directed the attention of officials to Grama Niladhari Divisions who are yet to receive the first dose of any coronavirus vaccine.
The PHI Union Chairman requested high ranking officials to understand that people are in fear and are therefore scrambling to obtain a vaccine dose.
He claimed that many individuals seeking to travel overseas have not been vaccinated yet by the government.
