The Ministry of Health has reiterated that it has not deliberately reduced the number of PCR and other tests conducted to identify coronavirus infected individuals in the country.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said a large number of PCR and Rapid Antigen tests are being conducted daily at present.
He said more than 25,000 to 30,000 Rapid Antigen kits are released on a daily basis.
He said such kits cannot be used to conduct any other tests and therefore assured that a large number of tests are being conducted daily in the country to detect COVID-19 cases.
Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said he cannot comment on decisions taken by experts to step down from technical committees.
Dr. Herath said technical committees have been established to provide recommendations to authorities who are tasked with reaching decisions on COVID-19 prevention programmes.
He said technical committees cannot take decisions on coronavirus prevention efforts and therefore they cannot feel disheartened if their recommendations are not implemented by higher authorities.
