The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna says specialist doctors and experts are stepping down from technical committees on COVID-19 Prevention only due to personal reasons.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Parliamentarian Jagath Kumara said there are no conflicts between the government and specialist doctors in COVID committees.
MP Jagath Kumara requested specialists and experts to continue to extend their support to the people and the country amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
He claimed that with the support of experts, the government has made great strides in containing the coronavirus spread.
MP Kumara said no committee member thus far has claimed that they have stepped down from a technical committee due to a decision taken to administer Pfizer vaccine doses to youth in the Hambantota district.
He said only the opposition and certain media outlets are trying to depict a different picture regarding the decision by some doctors to step down from technical committees.
Parliamentarian Jagath Kumara also claimed that they have been informed that no data related to COVID-19 have disappeared from the database of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority.
MP Kumara said they have been informed by the Chairman and senior officials that data that were reported missing can also be retrieved.
He said it is unfair to accuse the government over the incident.
Parliamentarian Jagath Kumara said the real situation will be revealed when the Criminal Investigation Department completes its probe.
