The Public Health Inspectors Union says the drop in the number of COVID-19 cases lately in comparison to several weeks ago is not the ground reality of the virus in society.
Chairman Upul Rohana said the drop in the conduct of PCR and Rapid Antigen Tests and the coronavirus positive cases not exhibiting symptoms owing to vaccinations has led to the drop in cases.
Rohana urged the public to understand the current developments and continue to follow health guidelines.
He added only a limited number of tests are being carried out claiming there are a large number of cases in society.
He charged that the public and institutions are going about in public having forgotten the existence of the coronavirus pandemic adding it sets a dangerous precedence.
Rohana said immunity built by vaccinations will wane at some point claiming that citizens could be at risk owing to undetected patients in society while deaths could also increase.
The PHI Chairman urged the public who haven’t been vaccinated to get vaccinated promptly.
