The Government Nursing Officers Association believes around 500,000 active COVID-19 patients are moving about in society.
Speaking to media yesterday, President of the Association Saman Ratnapriya said it is regrettable that data published by health authorities indicated that the number is in the 45,000 range.
He said the number of active cases must be clearly identified before reaching a final decision on lifting quarantine restrictions.
Ratnapriya warned the coronavirus could spread to many others from these active cases when quarantine curfew is lifted.
He claimed that data was published of 20% to 30% positive cases detected in some areas, adding that a majority of the data was inaccurate.
