The Government Medical Officers’ Association has decided to convene an emergency meeting of the Central Committee this afternoon to discuss the future course of action of the island-wide medical strike.
All branches of the GMOA are due to join the discussion.
Meanwhile, the GMOA has taken steps to inform political parties of the reasons behind the strike.
Today marks the 4th day of the island wide strike.
GMOA Secretary Dr. Senal Fernando addressing a media briefing yesterday said a special discussion was held between the Executive Board of the GMOA and the Registration and Assistant Medical Officers Association, during which the Association agreed to support the GMOA in its trade union action.
Dr. Fernando said they will observe the response of the Minister of Health, the Secretary to the Ministry of Health and the Director General of Health Services.
He added it is a technical issue that can be resolved at department level.
He noted the Health Ministry and the political authority do not need to intervene to resolve the matter.
Dr. Senal Fernando said however the Health Ministry has failed to resolve the issue.
