The Government Medical Officers’ Association says it cannot accept the statements made by authorities to justify the move to administer Pfizer vaccine doses to individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 in the Hambantota district.
Speaking to media, Editor of the GMOA Dr. Nalinda Herath said authorities have claimed that the decision was taken since the Hambantota district has an international harbor.
Dr. Nalinda Herath said statements made by authorities have no scientific basis.
He said similarly, international harbors are situated in Galle, Trincomalee and Jaffna and questioned whether residents of such districts will also receive the Pfizer vaccine doses based on the criteria.
Dr. Herath insisted based on their knowledge, Hambantota is not a priority district to administer the Pfizer vaccine.
He said vaccination cannot be prioritised based on harbors, airports and cricket stadiums.
