The Health Promotion Bureau has requested children with parents above 60 years of age, to ensure their parents receive the booster vaccine dose during the long weekend.
Consultant Medical Epidemiologist, for the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health Dr. Deepa Gamage speaking at a media briefing today said vaccination centres and hospitals will function during the long weekend in order for the public to obtain booster vaccine doses.
Dr. Gamage said the booster jab enhances one’s immune system and urged all eligible groups to obtain the shot if they have completed three months since obtaining the second vaccine dose.
She noted that individuals with inherent illnesses and persons above 60 years are a high risk category to the coronavirus and therefore urged that such groups obtain the booster dose.
Dr. Gamage said of 2.7 million individuals above the age of 60 in the country, 55.5% have thus far obtained the booster jab.
