The Public Health Inspector’s Union of Sri Lanka says the local woman who returned to Sri Lanka from Nigeria and was diagnosed with Omicron variant had not provided any information about her until yesterday.

Chairman of the Union Upul Rohana said directing individuals who are returning after foreign travel poses serious issues.

Rohana said the individual and her husband had returned from a conference in Nigeria on the 24th of November adding they had been subjected to PCR testing due to not having received a single dose of a COVID-vaccine.

He said the woman was directed to the Lunawa Treatment Centre after testing positive.

The Chairman of the Union said the PHI Office was not officially informed of her status adding no notification of her undergoing quarantine at home was also made officially.

He said under these circumstances none of the other occupants or her contacts were directed to quarantine.

Rohana said they made continuous requests to be informed of such situations.

He said the PHIs received all information after conducting an investigation due to the suspicious circumstances.

Furthermore, Rohana said it is questionable as to how the woman in question went abroad as she had not received any COVID-vaccine.

He stressed that there is a serious concern over the health surveillance process at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

The Chairman of the Union said anyone can avoid health authorities under these circumstances adding the possibility of avoiding health authorities is very high after 2.00am due to current positioning of surveillance procedures.

He said it is highly likely that other infected individuals could be inside the country adding they made continuous warnings during the past few days.

He said there are instances where individuals enter the country without a PCR report.
