Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella urges the public to follow health and safety guidelines during the festive season, since the country’s vaccination rates are at a satisfactory level adding that citizens must protect the progress the country has made so far.

The Minister pointed out that failure to follow these guidelines will result in a new cluster being created similar to the New Year cluster this year.

Health Minister Rambukwella was of the opinion that it is not practical to impose restrictions on all family gatherings and parties that will be held during the Christmas and New Year period.

Minister Rambukwella also pointed out that although many claimed the easiest way to control the coronavirus is through lockdowns, the local economy would crash during such a time.

He calculated that anyone obtaining the vaccine this week would develop antibodies in time for the festive season.

Therefore the Minister requested everyone to obtain the vaccine and the booster vaccine as soon as possible.
