The government says a final decision on whether the quarantine curfew will be extended beyond Monday, the 6th of August, has not been determined yet.
Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Ramesh Pathirana speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing said maximum support is being extended to the COVID-19 Prevention Task Force adding that the government’s policy is to consider citizens social economic status as well when reaching decisions.
Minister Pathirana added the government is considering the advice of specialists of the World Health Organisation and local health experts when reaching decisions.
The Minister said all factors are considered by the President and the Task Force when reaching crucial decisions adding that the focus at present is to manage the coronavirus situation the best they can, including reducing the number of virus linked cases and deaths.
Minister Pathirana when inquired by journalists if the extension of the quarantine curfew was discussed at yesterday’s weekly Cabinet of Ministers meeting said, the matter was not taken up for discussion.
