Face masks will not be mandatory in public places with effect from today (18).
Minister of Health Channa Jayasumana said face masks will however continue to be mandatory when travelling in public transportation and when at indoor events.
Wearing face masks was made mandatory since the outbreak of the coronavirus in 2020.
Laws were also formulated in Sri Lanka under the Quarantine Ordinance to take legal action against individuals who failed to wear face masks.
Sri Lanka’s coronavirus caseload is as of today (18) at 662,912 with 642,556 persons having recovered thus far and 16,496 virus-related deaths also recorded.
