The Ministry of Health says the number of coronavirus cases reported daily in Sri Lanka has seen a drastic decline.
Chief Coordinator of COVID-19 at the Ministry of Health, Director of Medical Technical Services Dr. Anwar Hamdani said the public need to follow directives of the Ministry in order to maintain the decreasing case numbers.
Speaking to media at the Health Promotion Bureau, Dr. Anwar Hamdani said people need to continue to adhere to directives keeping prevention in mind, instead of a fear driven approach.
Dr. Hamdani said there is no point in fearing the disease like the public did during the first, second and third waves since they have advanced knowledge on the matter.
Dr. Hamdani stressed that it is everyone’s collective responsibility to get vaccinated and adhere to health and safety practices.
Responding to media queries, Dr. Hamdani said the public has not ignored the diseases, but added things could go south if the public ignores directives in future.
Meanwhile, Dr. Anwar Hamdani speaking on the burial and cremation of Covid-19 fatalities in the country said it was sponsored by the government thus far.
However, he confirmed that relatives would have to bear that cost hereafter.
The Doctor explained that the PHI officer of the respective district will be informed of a burial or cremation of an individual who succumbed to the coronavirus.
Therefore, Dr. Hamdani confirmed that the body of a deceased can be cremated or buried in the city selected by relatives.
