Secretary of Defence Kamal Guneratne says the 300,000 doses of the Chinese Manufactured Sinopharm vaccine consignment that was donated by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army to the Sri Lanka Army, will be used to inoculate retired officers of the tri forces, and their families.
The Defence Secretary noted the consignment was received after a request was made to the Chinese Defence Minister.
The vaccine doses arrived together with another two million doses of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine purchased by the Lankan government which reached the Bandaranaike International Airport this morning.
Secretary of Defence Kamal Guneratne and Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva were present at the airport, alongside other government officials to accept the consignment.
Speaking during the occasion, Kamal Guneratne thanked the Chinese delegation for their continued assistance.
