The Director of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine of the Sri Jayawardenepura University Dr. Chandima Jeewandara says on average, individuals who contract the Delta coronavirus variant, begin exhibiting symptoms 5.8 days after infection, and 1.8 days after they first test positive.
Dr. Jeewandara taking to Twitter said vaccinated individuals were also 65% less likely than unvaccinated individuals to infect another.
He claimed this is a significant and reassuring finding stating that COVID-19 vaccines remain effective and a vital part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
