Respiratory Specialist at the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital Dr. Channa de Silva says the number of children hospitalised due to the coronavirus has increased due to the current spread.
Dr. de Silva commenting on the death of a school child at the Marawila Hospital due to COVID-19 said the child succumbed to COVID-pneumonia.
He noted there is an increase in the number of COVID-cases among children, adding that while the Lady Ridgeway Hospital treated less than 20 children several weeks ago, more than 50 are currently being treated in-house.
While claiming that children do not suffer from complications, Dr. de Silva said the increase in cases could lead to serious bouts of COVID in children.
He noted that rare cases of children succumbing to the coronavirus could be reported.
